About Agata Magelis

Agata Magelis is an American multimedia artist who was born in Riga, Latvia. In 2001 she moved to Atlanta, GA.

She is best known for her use of unconventional media (burned thermal paper). In her work she likes to express her dialogue with the ancestors. Her art often explores themes of darkness, the macabre, the grotesque, and the unsettling, sometimes delving into psychological, emotional, or philosophical aspects of the human experience.

The artist is interested in questioning societal norms, or capturing the complexities of fear, death, and suffering. There is always light at the end of the tunnel.

Her TRAIN works represent a metaphorical train journey as long as life. Each passenger represents a different part of ourselves or the people we encounter along the way. The train moves along tracks that have been laid out before us—perhaps we have some say in where we get on or off, but often we’re carried forward by the momentum of the journey itself.

Agata Magelis also worked as an independent curator of International Art Shows.
